چکیده

By MARCEL E. CONRAD, LEWIS R. WEINTRAUB AND WILLIAM H. CROSBY T HE QUANTITY of iron present in the body is regulated by a balance between iron absorption and loss.15 Iron-deficient and iron-loaded animals and humans attempt to re-establish a normal body store of iron by regulating absorption16 and a limited but selective loss of body iron.58 The hemolytic states are unusual in that increased absorption continues in the face of an iron-replete body store without accumulating iron in massive quantities.8’#{176} The purpose of this study is to examine the mechanisms regulating iron absorption and loss in the hemolytic state produced by administration of acetylphenylhydrazine ( AcPh).

Protective Effect of Cynara scolymus L. on Blood Biochemical Parameters and Liver Histopathological Changes in Phenylhydrazine-induced Hemolytic Anemia in Rats

Background: Artichoke (Cynara scolymus) possesses bioactive components with antioxidant effects. This plant has been widely used in traditional medicine.  Objectives: The current study aimed to examine the protective activity of Hydroethanolic Extract of Cynara scolymus (HECS) against experimentally-induced hemolytic anemia in rats. Methods: Hemolytic anemia was induced by intraperitoneal inj...

Amelioration of Lipid Peroxidation and Antioxidant Enzymes Status in the Serum and Erythrocytes of Phenylhydrazine-Induced Anemic Male Rats: The Protective Role of Artichoke Extract (Cynara scolymus L.)

BACKGROUND: Hemolytic anemia is a disorder characterized by the premature erythrocytes destruction. Phenylhydrazine (PHZ) induces oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation, which causes hemolytic anemia. Cynara scolymus due to its antioxidant compounds, has been used for various therapeutic purposes in traditional medicine. OBJECTIVES: The present study was designed to evalua...

P-85: Evaluation of Sperm Fertility Quality in Phenyl Hydrazine-Induced Hemolytic Anemia Impacts on Mice

Background: Anemia and consequently low oxygen can cause changes in the function and structure of the testis and spermatogenesis, Iron released from red blood cells, followed by the increased oxidative stress, which may cause tissue iron. This study was designed to minimize the deleterious effects of hypoxia on the genitals. Materials and Methods: Eighteen mature male mice were randomly divided...

In vivo dopamine metabolism is altered in iron-deficient anemic rats.

Previous studies of dopamine metabolism in iron-deficient rats demonstrated an elevation in extraneuronal levels of dopamine and a depression in the number of dopamine D2 receptors; however, the importance of anemia per se and the reversibility of these observations are not completely resolved. The purpose of this study was to determine if in vivo reuptake of caudate dopamine is altered by iron...

MINERAL EXCHANGES OF MAN: III. Mineral Metabolism During Treatment of a Case of Polycythemia Vera.

The hemolytic properties of phenylhydrazine and phenylhydrazine hydrochloride were first demonstrated by Hoppe-Seyler (16) in 1884. During the following thirty-four years the drug or its derivatives were used to some extent in the production of experimental anemia in animals, but it was not until 1918 that it achieved a place in human therapeusis through publication of experiments by Eppinger a...
